CDC Offers Strong Safety Recommendations – Including Measures for Hygiene and Surface Disinfection – as Businesses Welcome Back Employees and Customers

This week the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its “Activities and Initiatives Plan for Opening America Up Again.” The plan outlines strong safety recommendations for action by restaurants and bars; schools and day camps; childcare programs; employers with workers at high risk; and mass transit administrators.

The CDC plan is in line with actions GOJO announced on May 5, where the company evolved its pandemic response to support the reopening of restaurants, schools, offices, and other critical public places. While continuing to ensure hygiene products are available for hospitals, first responders, and critical infrastructure providers, such as grocery stores and the military.

“The CDC guidance offers evidence-based, helpful, and relatively easy to implement safety measures to help protect public health,” said Jim Arbogast, Ph.D., GOJO Vice President of Hygiene Sciences and Public Health Advancements. “As the global leader in skin health and hygiene solutions, we appreciate the detailed, scientifically sound guidelines the CDC provided for all the places where hand hygiene and surface disinfection are critical to reduce the risk from germs that can cause infections.”

“As more and more businesses and institutions across all sectors are reopening and people are returning to public spaces, demand for PURELL® sanitizer, soap, wipes, and surface spray, is expanding exponentially,” said Carey Jaros, GOJO President and CEO. “GOJO is rising to meet this new challenge through collaboration with our suppliers and creative sourcing partnerships, strong partnership with our distributors, and bold expansion plans. We feel tremendous responsibility to keep people healthy and well, and to support bringing people back to public life, we are committed to ensuring PURELL® products are available everywhere they’re needed.”

For a short time, supporting reopening of the economy and frontline workers means there will continue to be less product available on retail shelves and online. But the many steps the company is taking, including very significant capital investment, will dramatically expand capacity and availability in the coming months.

“As the inventor of PURELL® Hand Sanitizer and the science-based market leader, we will do what it takes to bring the safest, most effective, and most innovative PURELL® solutions to a post-pandemic world where hygiene has truly become essential,” said Jaros.
